In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with this beautiful soul! Bola Shasanmi is my guest for this episode. She truly knows how painful it can be to not be valued for who you are. She knows what it's like to feel that you don't fit in. As the youngest child in a Nigerian family and the third girl in a culture where being a boy is valued higher than a girl, Bola suffered deep rejection. She felt like she didn't matter and what she thought didn't matter. She was not what others wanted her to be. She was a disappointment just being who she was. How devastating that can be for a child!
But she has overcome that rejection and has embraced her uniqueness, knowing she adds beauty and spice to life being just who she is. She has stopped pretending to be someone others want her to be and has simply chosen to be herself. What a gift!
"When you embrace your uniqueness, you experience freedom, and in your freedom, you allow other people to experience freedom."
Bola Shasanmi
What a powerful story! And you'll want to listen to the end because she shares one of her poems, I Am Who I Am, and it is powerful!
